Rune

The software we're building to find where quantum computing pays off commercially, and to prove it, problem by problem.

What Rune is

Rune is our toolchain for matching real problems to quantum computers. It takes a problem a company actually cares about, works out whether quantum can do it better, cheaper, or at all, and if it can, maps the path to running it on real hardware.

The aim is simple: separate the problems where quantum genuinely helps from the ones where classical computers already win, and give our partners an honest, commercial answer either way.

Why it matters

Quantum computers don't beat classical ones at everything. They beat them at a specific few things, and the hard part is knowing which. Most of the industry is racing to build bigger machines. We think the bigger gap is knowing what to run on them.

Rune is how we close that gap: the research, the tooling, and the judgment to turn a promising quantum idea into a result a business can actually use.

Status & roadmap

  1. 2026 Q2

    Founding research

The groundwork: mapping where quantum computing can genuinely beat classical, and why.

  2. 2026 Q3

    Partner & problem exploration

Listening to the field and sizing the problems worth solving, then founding Rune to work them.

  3. 2026 Q4

    Rune: proprietary development

Building Rune's software in earnest, applying the methodology to our first problem domains (financial and weather forecasting), and building in-house expertise in quantum amplitude estimation (QAE).

  4. 2027 Q1

    Forecasting, benchmarked

Take both forecasting domains end to end through Rune and benchmark honestly against the best classical methods, separating where quantum helps from where it doesn't. Begin R&D and build expertise on variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) and quantum phase estimation (QPE) implementations.

  5. 2027 Q2

    First hardware partner: trapped-ion

Sign our first QPU partner on trapped-ion hardware and move the strongest forecasting candidates from simulation onto real machines.

  6. 2027 Q3

    First design partners

A small cohort of commercial design partners in finance and climate, where the methodology becomes paid pilots.

  7. 2027 Q4

    Second modality: superconducting

Add a superconducting partner, run the same problems across both modalities, and publish our first commercial case study.

  8. 2028 Q1

    Deploy Rune

Rune goes from internal toolchain to deployed product: a repeatable pipeline partners run with us, taking any new problem from 'is this viable?' to a benchmarked answer on real hardware.

What we're working toward

  • Partnerships with the companies building each QPU modality: superconducting and trapped-ion.
  • Investors who want in at the resource layer of quantum advantage.
